In the event of a flood, is my home covered?
If you’re concerned about flood insurance, then that probably means that there are two primary questions are on your mind: am I covered? And – do I need to be?
It’s first important to note that no, you’re most likely not covered. Standard homeowner’s policies typically don’t include flood insurance by default. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t include one in your plan.
The Wichita area, and the Sedgewick County in general, has seen its fair share of severe flooding through the years, so being insured against these types of disasters is something you’ll certainly want to consider.
Don’t Wait
It’s important not to wait until those flash flood warnings begin. There is typically a 30-day waiting period before a flood insurance policy begins.
Checking out the most recent flood map will give you a better understanding of whether or not your home lies in a risky area.
Do note, however, that there are other situations where flooding may occur. If snowfall during the winter is much higher than normal, melting snow may cause flooding, as could an overflowing creek or pond close to your home.
Basically, if you live close to a source of water, or down an incline, then flood insurance could potentially protect you if flooding occurs.
How can I acquire flood insurance?
For this, Hensley Insurance is here to help! FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program has been in effect since the 60s, and has helped millions of homeowners not only afford flood insurance, but recover after a disastrous flood.
